About Dimensional Muse
Bringing imagination to life, one layer at a time.
Dimensional Muse began with a Christmas present.
My husband bought “me” a 3D printer. Then, for almost a year, it sat there largely untouched.
Eventually, curiosity won.
He started experimenting with it, learning how it worked, figuring out settings, materials, and all the little things that turn a digital file into something you can actually hold in your hands.
And then things escalated.
A year and a half later, our workshop has grown to include a fleet of 3D printers, resin printers, and laser cutters and engravers that seem to be running more often than they are not.
But somewhere along the way, this stopped being about the machines.
It became about what we could create with them.
From printing things to creating things
At first, we were fascinated simply by the technology. We learned how the printers worked, how to maintain them, and how to get consistently good results.
Then we learned the software.
We started modifying existing designs, changing pieces to make them work better or look different, and eventually began creating designs of our own.
Then came an entirely new challenge.
What happens after the printer stops?
We learned how to clean and prepare prints, sand surfaces, fill imperfections, assemble pieces, prime them, and prepare them for finishing. Then we began teaching ourselves how to paint, first by hand and later with airbrushes, waxes, specialty finishes, and different techniques that could completely transform the appearance of a printed object.
That changed everything.
We realized that a 3D printer did not have to be the end of the creative process. It could simply be the beginning.
Where technology meets art
When we first started attending craft fairs and festivals, we brought a little bit of everything.
We were having so much fun printing that we wanted to make almost anything we could imagine. Our printers ran around the clock, and our tables reflected that excitement.
Over time, our focus began to change.
Today, Dimensional Muse is increasingly about creating pieces that feel special.
We make 3D-printed home goods, figurines, gifts, collectibles, fun pieces for kids, and increasingly, individually finished works that combine digital fabrication with traditional artistic techniques.
Some pieces come directly from the printer and are selected because they are fun, clever, beautiful, or useful.
Others are only beginning when the printing is finished.
Those pieces may be cleaned, sanded, assembled, primed, hand-painted, airbrushed, highlighted with waxes, or finished using multiple techniques. Because much of that work is done by hand, no two finished pieces will ever be exactly alike.
That individuality has become an important part of what Dimensional Muse is about.
We are not trying to simply manufacture objects.
We want to make things people stop to look at, pick up, talk about, give as gifts, collect, and enjoy.
And we are only getting started
Our vision for Dimensional Muse goes well beyond selling what we make.
One day, we want to open a physical Dimensional Muse studio and shop.
Yes, it will be a place where people can see and purchase our work.
But more importantly, we want it to be a place where people can create.
We envision classes for people who want to learn 3D printing from the beginning, including how to choose a printer, maintain it, work with files and software, prepare prints, sand and finish pieces, hand-paint, airbrush, and use laser cutters and different laser materials.
We want to create workspaces where people can use equipment and supplies without having to buy an entire workshop of their own.
A place where someone can rent time on a printer.
Use a painting station.
Experiment with an airbrush.
Learn something they have always wanted to try.
Make a project with their kids.
Celebrate a birthday by creating something together.
Or turn a girls’ night out into a night of painting, making, laughing, and going home with something completely unique.
Because one of the things we have discovered during this journey is that making things is incredibly rewarding.
And we want other people to experience that too.
Where we are today
For now, you can find Dimensional Muse at craft fairs and festivals, where we love meeting people and sharing what we are working on.
We also share new projects, experiments, behind-the-scenes looks, upcoming events, and new creations through our Facebook page.
Our next major step is bringing our online shop to life so that people can purchase Dimensional Muse creations even when they cannot visit us at an event.
After that, we keep building toward the bigger dream.
More designs.
More techniques.
More things to create.
More opportunities to teach.
And eventually, a place where anyone with an idea can walk through the door and discover what they can make.
Because Dimensional Muse was never really supposed to become a business.
It started with one unused 3D printer.
Then curiosity took over.
And we cannot wait to see where it takes us next.
